Jan 22 is National Answer Your Cat's Questions Day!

I had to think a lot about what your cat might ask you, and I came up with these five questions that are relatively common things your cat would want to know.

Why can’t I go outside?

I sit and watch birds and critters from the window and I really want to go out there and hunt them. I just know I would have a terrific time exploring new territories and marking them as my own. And occasionally, I see another cat cross our yard and I want to go share a piece of my mind with him! I just don’t want to be out there when the big trucks go by – they make a lot of noise and scare me.

Why do you insist on covering my litter box?

I don’t like having a cover on my litter box and I wonder why you do it. The smells get real bad in there and I can hardly breathe. When I’m inside I can’t see out and there might be another cat or predator out there waiting to get me; I’m afraid when I exit the box.

Can you clean my box more often?

And while we’re on the subject of litter boxes, would it be too much to ask you to clean it more often? I do not like to step on soiled areas. Hey, you don’t like to sit on soiled toilet seats, right? Ideally you would scoop out the stuff right after I’ve done it, but I understand you are busy. If you would scoop it out twice daily, I’d be a lot happier.

Why can’t I scratch the sofa?

Why do you start making loud noises and squirt me with water when I try to get a good back stretch on the sofa? I know you keep pointing to that post thing you bought me – and you even try to entice me to it by rubbing catnip all over it, but it’s too short! I can’t get a full stretch out on it. I also don’t like the texture of it. What I really like is the sofa texture. So why is this such an issue with you?

Why can’t I have fresh bird and mouse for dinner?

My tummy is craving some fresh food around here! I like to crunch on the kibble; it’s sort of like eating potato chips and the texture is a bit addictive. You keep feeding me fish flavors, and they’re ok but what I’d really like is some good ole Dove bird and Field Mouse for dinner. Why don’t those flavors come in the cans? It’s hard to pinpoint an accurate description, but sometimes I don’t feel like I’m getting the right nutrition I need. I don’t have as much energy as I used to and my gut hurts.
