Molly DeVoss is a Certified Reiki Master/Teacher, who focuses on treating cats. She often uses Reiki energy on cats in shelters and homes to reduce stress, balance their chakra system, and promote the healing of emotional and physical injuries.
She is now offering virtual Reiki sessions where she will send Reiki energy long distance to your cat and teach you some energy healing basics so you can continue to sooth your cat after the session. The sessions are done virtually, through zoom and last about an hour. They begin with a brief explanation of Reiki energy and instruction for bringing it into yourself and channeling it to your cat. She covers hand positions specific to the well-being you’re your cat. To learn more, click here.
What is Reiki and what does it do?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle hands-on healing technique. The word comes from two Japanese words, Rei and Ki meaning Universal Life Force. The word "Reiki" is typically translated as "universal life energy". It is a holistic healing system; part of the energetic healing field, rediscovered from the wisdom and knowledge of ancient cultures for use in modern times.
The roots of Reiki lie in ancient origins and were rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki was brought to and nurtured in the United States from Japan by Mrs. Hawayo Takata.
Animals are particularly tuned in, and attracted to, the healing energy and will often seek out the practitioner when they need healing.
Reiki, a renowned ancient wellness practice with roots in Japan, uses soothing vibrations, usually generated from the hands, to release emotional blockages and relax the body. This proven and honored technique is a natural way to strengthen the cat's immune system, lower stress levels, and relieve physical and emotional pain.
Reiki can be used to maintain health, to heal illness, injuries, emotional problems and to ease the transition between life and death. The feeling of receiving a Reiki treatment is generally one of deep relaxation.
Everything in the universe is made up of, and connected by, energy. By transmitting healing energy of the universe along the energetic pathways and through the practitioner's hands, to the cat, Reiki heals as deeply as needed within a being to create a shift toward health.
Reiki can be given in person, with hands placed on the cat or at a short distance from the cat, or since Reiki is energetic in essence, it can be sent across a distance.
Reiki goes directly to the source of the problem, even if it's unknown to the practitioner, and heals at a level and intensity that a being is open to receive. The practitioner benefits from the giving of a Reiki treatment also; as the energy flows through her, it heals her and the client simultaneously.
The principles of Reiki are a good guidepost for all of us to follow:
Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to every living thing.
~ Dr. Mikao Usui
What are Chakras?
Humans have 7 major Chakras, the cat has 8. Chakras are energy centers in the body through which energy flows. If one of the Chakras becomes blocked, or unbalanced, it can often lead to physical or emotional illness. Each Chakra represents different parts of the physical and emotional being. Fear, anxiety and stress are common causes of chakra malfunction.
